Just last month Renault Nissan alliance plant in Chennai produced 1,00,000 Nissan Micra cars in a record time of thirteen months. This month they have yet another celebration to make. In a record time of 15 months they have completed production of 1,00,000 units if its HR12DE 1.2 liter and 1.5 liter petrol engines. The 1.5 liter petrol engines are for Nissan Sunny, a mid size saloon due for India.
Mr. Kou Kimura, CEO and MD, RNAIPL commented on the achievement of the milestone
“the plant has set milestones that are creditable on a global level. It makes me feel proud of the local skill-set that are driving it to such high levels. I dedicate this achievement to the people of Tamil Nadu for their endearing spirit and zeal to achieve such high levels of commitment in their work and passion for the company”.
The HR12DE range of petrol engines are a part of Nissan’s project called ‘Nissan Green Project 2010’. The project’s aim is to reduce the carbon foot print. Nissan manufactures engines which are more efficient and kinder to the environment. Nissan Micra is the first car to use an HR12DE engines. This range of engines are light in weight and compact. The engine’s got fewer moving parts than a usual four cylinder engine. Bore circularity machining has reduced friction by 20% in its cylinders. The weight balance of the rotary shaft has been adjusted for lesser noise vibration performance. All of this helps not only to make these engines more powerful and efficient, but also increases the life of the engine.
